The Center Stage Education Center offers classes for students in Pre-K through high school four days per week throughout the school year. Students can obtain a membership to take unlimited classes each session and receive busing to our programs if they are a Shelton public school student.  We will finish out the fall session with a showcase on Saturday, December 14th. FALL

SCHEDULE!

SINGING/VOCAL PERFORMANCE

Students who enroll in our singing and vocal performance classes will work on the basics such as memorization and pitch with the goal of becoming confident soloists who are able to harmonize.

ACTING

From Improv to Scene Study, our acting classes will have students focusing on voice and speech, character development, interpretation, projection, creative expression and more.

DANCE/MOVEMENT

Beginning this fall, CSEC will be offering ballet, tap, and jazz classes as well as musical theater dance and yoga classes for students. A dance assessment will take place in August for students who wish to be placed into the appropriate level as well as anyone who would like to register for our Level II classes.

TECHNICAL THEATER

In a brand new program that was unveiled this fall, students in middle school and high school will learn important aspects of technical theater including lighting design, set design, costumes, wigs, props, stage management, and more!

FALL 2019 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Broadway Dance Through The Decades (Gr 7-12)

Starting with the 1920s, join teacher Katie Sedlock for a journey through nearly 100 years of Broadway dance numbers! A strong emphasis will be placed on learning a variety of styles as well as dance technique.

 

Broadway Yoga I (Gr 3-6) & Broadway Yoga II (Gr 7-12)

Take a breather, relax and get focused each week in Broadway Yoga with teacher Lynn Giordano where students will learn basic and intermediate poses while uplifting songs from musicals play.

 

Center Stage Show Choir (Gr 3-8)

Taking a page from the popular television show Glee, Center Stage is starting our very own show choir, choreographed and taught by Katie Sedlock and musical directed by Gina Scarpa.

 

Dynamic Duos I (Gr 3-6) & Dynamic Duos II (Gr 7-12)

Back by popular demand and with two class sections this fall, Dynamic Duos is taught by Gina Scarpa and pairs students together each week to fully block and stage songs that feature harmonies.

 

Jump On The Page (Gr 3-6)

Taught by Chelsea Rodrigues, Jump Off The Page is an acting class that brings students’ favorite characters to life by creating scenes out of popular books that they know and love.

 

Let’s Put On A Play (Gr 3-4)

Working with teachers Anthony and Michael Tartaglia, students will create and write an entirely original play where everyone plays an important role.

 

Little Performers (Pre-K & K)

Center Stage welcomes elementary school teacher and long time CS performer Lillian Trembley this fall to teach our young performers and give them an introduction to acting, singing, and dancing.

 

Magical Musicals (Gr 1-2)

Led by teacher Lillian Trembley, our first and second graders will learn and perform scenes and songs from magical musicals such as Matilda, Aladdin, and Frozen!

 

Musical Theater Dance (Gr 5-8)

Spend your fall learning energetic dance numbers from your favorite Broadway shows with teacher Katie Sedlock! 

 

Musicals In Depth: The Addams Family (Gr 5-8)

Spend the fall singing, dancing and acting out scenes from the musical that features America’s favorite creepy, kooky mysterious and spooky family! 

 

Musicals In Depth: Frozen (Gr 3-5)

Travel to Arenderelle to sing, act, and dance along with Anna, Elsa, Olaf and the characters of the Broadway musical Frozen!

 

Musicals In Depth: Mary Poppins Returns (Gr 3-6)

Based on the 2018 hit movie musical, this class taught by Chelsea Rodrigues, focuses on scenes from the sequel to Mary Poppins as well as an exciting medley of songs including Lovely London Sky, Can You Imagine That, and Trip A Little Light Fantastic.

 

Musicals In Depth: Mean Girls (Gr 7-12)

This Tony nominated musical has been a hit with audience members, especially teens, since it opened last year on Broadway. Taught by Katie Sedlock, Musicals In Depth: Mean Girls will bring scenes and songs like It Roars, Apex Predator, and I See Stars to life.

 

On Screen Acting (Gr 5-8)

Did you know that there’s a big difference between how to act in front of a live audience in a theater and how to act on camera? This class, taught by Anthony and Michael Tartaglia, will focus on acting for the small screen including television and YouTube.

Playwriting & Storytelling (Gr 5-12)

Students in Playwriting and Storytelling will have an amazing opportunity to write their own play based on Shelton’s Jones family and the historic farm they’ve been running here in Shelton for over 150 years. Taught by Education Director Gina Scarpa, students will work directly with members of Jones Family Farms to tell their story in a creative and exciting way.

Production Design (Gr 5-8)

This fall, our Production Design class will be responsible for working on the technical side of our 3rd and 4th grade musical, 101 Dalmatians! Taught by Sandra Fernandes, Production Design will create costumes, props, and set pieces to take our junior shows to the next level.

 

Shakespeare Jr presents Romeo & Juliet (Gr 5-8)

After last year’s successful introductory Shakespeare class, our new program will introduced a condensed version of the classic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. Taught by Josh Hahn, the class will place a large emphasis on interpretation and iambic pentameter with a full performance on the final day of class for family and friends.

Theater and Our Generation (Gr 7-12)

How do Broadway musicals like Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, The Prom and more reflect what is currently going on in our society? Teachers Anthony and Michael Tartaglia will lead students in thoughtful discussions each week followed by scenes and songs to rehearse and perform.
